Notes I reviewed past counts for this survey and found that it was the lowest count on record for the survey. It has been well above normal temperatures (today in the low 70s). This period was preceded by about 2 weeks of subfreezing temps. I suggest the causes are lack of snow cover so far this season and moderate drought conditions resulting in poor availability of forage forcing movement to better conditions.
Seemed to be a preponderance of eastern subspecies of Redtails. No evidence of other subspecies usually seen on this survey.
Creeks mostly open, lakes frozen solid.
