Notes	Quite a warm winter probably secondary to strong El Nina. All ponds were frozen. The Wallkill River had a thin skin of ice proximal to a spillway and almost no ice distal. Galeville Park is NE of and is contiguous with Shawangunk Grasslands NWR. We saw the same species in the same numbers at both spots except at the latter we saw 1 more Short-eared Owl, i.e. we observed a total of 5 at one time. Ken McDermott an experienced senior member of the E.A.Mearns Bird Club told me that the evening before he had seen 9 SE. 5 minutes after we left Shawangunk Grasslands NWR he called us saying he had seen a RL hovering to the north of the grassland. We went back but did not see it.
