Before going to the Shawangunk Grasslands NWR we were at Galeville Park where we saw 1 NH perched and 5 SEO perched and flying – but all of them were in the area of the NWR and thus not reported separately.

Notes: On Long Lane. Perched in a tree behind a house, 75 m to the SW. Accipiter with outer tail feathers as long as central tail feathers, not as large as a crow, head peaked at back, squarish head, barred rusty breast. Initial impression was SS but an image through the scope showed the head shape.

Notes: Shawangunk Grasslands NWR. Seen high to the north, flying and flapping almost continuously, flew to the SW. White in the wing pits and obliquely along wing, dark head, belly and tail and no white upper back. Juvenile.
